Hipster Party

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Hello everyone!  I can’t wait to share this post with you about an amazing photo shoot I did with Sarah and Jeff about a month ago to feature some of their amazing inventory.  First, and foremost, we wanted to show off their gorgeous hand-built harvest tables.  We tossed around a variety of ideas of how we wanted to present them to all of you and decided on a party (with a theme!).

Stacked sewing drawers

One of my favorite things about blogging for A LA CRATE is doing research.  It is unbelievably fun to find so many cool ways to use something that had a totally different original purpose.  Not only does it get my creative juices flowing, it is also exciting to be promoting a reduce/re-use/recycle ethos!

DIY: Yarn-Wrapped Antlers

Antler art

After my last post on antlers, I decided I wanted to try my hand at one of the DIY ideas I found.  I really love the beauty of antlers as they are, but wrapping some yarn around them to give a little texture and color seemed liked a cool way to do something a little different with them!

Antlers are all the rage these days.  From tee shirts to jewelry to above my mantel, antlers add an earthy, edgy vibe to a whole lot of life’s simple pleasures.  This got us thinking, here at Á LA CRATE, that there are likely a whole lot of options for how the uber-cool antlers in our inventory could be used for a variety of events and photo shoots.  For this post, since wedding season is upon us, we decided to hone in on how our brides and grooms can use them for their upcoming nuptials!  And let me tell you, once I started hunting the world wide web for the most current wedding trends involving antlers, I got pretty excited about using them as our very first ‘Featured Item’ post on the recently re-vamped ALC blog.

Mad Love

Monday, January 14, 2013

We often tell our customers who are looking for a place to start to find one piece that they love and build off of that.

We were reminded of our own advice when we came across this great set of screen printed napkins at a gallery night in Madison this past October. Jeff and I immediately loved the napkins and had to buy some kitchen towels in the same design for our own house. Local artist, Rosy Hawbaker, owner of ReCreative Crafts (http://www.etsy.com/shop/RecreativeCrafts) makes these along with oodles of other Madison and Wisconsin themed tshirts and baby onsies. One of my favorites is her "Made Locally" baby onesie (http://www.etsy.com/listing/82843863/wisconsin-onesie-made-locally)…makes me chuckle every time I see it. ;

What I was getting to is that we loved them so much we decided we wanted to design a wedding tablescape around them for the 2013 Wedding Planner and Guide Winter Bridal Show! The show was this past weekend and I thought I would share with you our thought process, the finished product and at the end of this post, some exciting news!

Here are the napkins that started the idea:
