Open House!

Thursday, July 10, 2014

We are so excited to invite you all to come celebrate our new space and indulge in some some of Sarah's pregnancy cravings (although truth be told she mainly can be found wolfing down peanut butter and fruit...)! I am pretty sure if there isn't any Hot Peanut Butter ice cream left over, we will all know who ate it! The event is July 25th from 4-7pm at our new location (the address is 2619 Industrial Drive in Monona). Staci, one of the owners of Calliope Ice Cream, will there be serving up Brandy Old Fashioned, Hot Peanut Butter and Graham Cracker ice cream (drool). If you are like me, and have a lifelong pickle craving, get ready to also nosh on a variety of pickle spears by Myrtle Mabel Farms, along with other pickled goodies that you don't want to miss! Once you have a plate of goodies, you can take a peek around our new space, settle into a vignette of our favorite rentals, or grab a seat at one of our handmade harvest tables to enjoy music by local (and very talented) musician Anna Vogelzang. Anna is a good friend of ALC - she is not only a previous customer but she has also worked with us on a past project! Make sure you are lookin' cute when you arrive because photographers, Sarah and Todd Maughn of Urban Anchor Photography, will be on hand snapping photos of our guests mixing and mingling! Last but not least, please note the incredible work that Emily Balsley Illustrations did on the poster for the event. She is such a talent and we couldn't be more excited to have her join us at the Open House, so everyone can meet her in person! (P.S. She also does wedding invitations!)

Mood Board: Bridal Shower

Bridal Shower Mood Board - ALC

We are big fans of mood boards (see here and here for more on this) at ALC, so when Sarah suggested we start a new blog feature using mood boards to showcase different party/event ideas, I couldn't have been more excited! Since we are in the midst of wedding season I decided to start with a bridal shower. When I started thinking of the ALC rentals that would be perfect for a bridal shower, I decided on decor that was simple, feminine, and pretty. Even though showers these days are often for both the bride and groom, I love the idea of the traditonal shower for the bride: a gathering of the women in her life to celebrate the milestone of marriage. My own bridal shower was a really lovely brunch that felt very intimate and girly, in the best possible way! This decor would be perfect for a brunch or an afternoon tea party.  I started with one of our 8-foot harvest tables and a simple centerpiece that includes one of our mis-matched gold mirrors (used as a tray) and a pastel vase filled with simple, delicate baby's breath set on top.  Personalize the centerpiece by placing childhood photos of the bride in our flower frogs and setting them on the tray along side the flowers. Set the table with our mis-matched china, silver flatware, and a pretty linen napkin. Then add a sweet, elegant touch to the table with these little "I do" coasters from J. Crew! For additional decor, fill our 2-tier wood pedestal with cupcakes, announce the party plans or menu on one of our chalkboards with custom writing, and fill our silver dough bowl with ice to chill the bride's favorite champagne.

French Linen Victorian Sofa // Wood Stumps // Gold Bell

For those of you that follow A LA CRATE on Instagram, you may have seen some behind-the-scenes snaps of the photoshoot that I styled last week (I also posted a few of my own pics on the blog). Before I get into the nitty gritty of the shoot, I need to acknowledge the team of incredibly talented people that I worked with to make it all happen. Behind the lens, taking these incredible photos, was Andrew Keeley Yonda, a local Madison photographer. He and his wife, also a photographer, own a wedding & portrait photography studio, Amelia John Photography, and he also specializes in fashion photography.  Barb Zanzig was responsible for the beautiful hair and makeup of our model, Middleton fashion blogger, Natalie Callahan.  Putting together a photo shoot is often times a lot of moving parts and these three people, along with ALC, were so fantastic to work with. So, with that said, let's break down the shoot and talk about my inspiration and highlight all of the great ALC rentals I used to put together the three vignettes.

Sneak Peek: Photoshoot

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

If you have been reading the ALC blog for awhile, you likely remember that in addition to being the writer of the ALC blog, I also am a freelance stylist.  Last week, along with some talented friends, I had the opportunity to style a photoshoot in the new ALC warehouse.  Using some of my favorite pieces that Sarah and Jeff have for rent, I styled three vignettes to use as the backdrop for our lovely model, Natalie.  I thought I would share a few of the behind-the-scenes photos today, but stay tuned for the final images and a few more details into my inspiration for this very fun shoot. I will also provide all the details on the ALC rentals that I used for each vignette so that you can start dreaming up how you are going to use them yourself!

We are so excited to finally share the AFTER photos of our new space! It has been a long road to get to this point, but we are so happy with the end result. Just to refresh your memory, THIS is what it looked like before. And HERE is how we got to the final product. So, without further ado, may we present our new A LA CRATE Vintage Rentals location.
